About Karen Hulene Bartell

Writer from the get-go!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Writer from the get-go!

Born to rolling-stone parents who moved annually, my earliest playmates were fictional friends in books. Paperbacks became my portable pals. Novels offered an imaginative escape. An only child, I began writing my first novel at the age of nine, learning the joys of creating my own happy endings.

Why the supernatural?

Writer from the get-go!

Ghost stories keep me up at night—reading feverishly. The paranormal is my passion.

I write multicultural, suspense stories steeped in the supernatural with a smack of offbeat romance--the types of books I want to read with spooky elements

that make my neck hairs tingle.

"True love is like a ghost.

Many believe in it, but few encounter it."

IMHO, the only thing better than reading

a book is writing one ;)

Professor emeritus of the University of Texas at Austin, I reside in the Piney Woods with my husband and my *mews*—three rescued cats and a rescued *Cat*ahoula Leopard dog.
